A WORD FROM OUR CEO

GibSilver is about more than just answering the phone. It’s about offering a lifeline to people in our community who may feel isolated, lonely, or need a caring conversation. We’re also looking for volunteers who want to be part of something meaningful and inviting people to register to receive calls. A small amount of time can make a huge difference in someone’s life.”

For people who want to volunteer
Help us make Gibraltar a more connected place for everyone.
Volunteering with GibSilver is about offering time, presence and kindness. We will provide training, guidance and ongoing support. All you need to bring is a willingness to listen.
There are a few ways to get involved:

Make regular befriending calls
We will match you with someone aged 55 or over for regular, informal check-ins. Many of our users look forward to these calls as a highlight of their week.
Befriending calls require a minimum commitment of 30 minutes a week, but you can give more depending on what you are comfortable with and able to offer.
Why GibSilver matters
As we get older, life changes. Some of us see friends less often. Others lose partners or family. And while Gibraltar is a close-knit place, many people over 55 still experience moments of deep loneliness or disconnection, even if they do not talk about it. GibSilver is here to change that.
A simple conversation can change someone’s day.
One in three people aged 55 and over in Gibraltar report feeling isolated.
Many older adults want more connection but do not know where to start.
Volunteering helps combat loneliness for both the listener and the one being heard.
GibSilver offers a space where people can be seen, heard and valued.
