GibSams recently held a Town Hall meeting to bring together volunteers and supporters from across the charity. The meeting came as CEO Brenda Cuby begins a planned three-month sabbatical. Brenda reflected on the growth of GibSams over the past eight years, from its founding by MarieLou Guerrero to the organisation it is today, supported by around 150 volunteers. She thanked everyone who has contributed to the service along the way.
During Brenda’s sabbatical, her role will be covered by SuAnn Pliner, who will serve as interim CEO. SuAnn spoke about her commitment to maintaining a steady and supportive service and to continuing to strengthen GibSams’ connection with the community during this period.
Chair of the Board of Trustees, Peter Montegriffo KC, also outlined how the charity will continue to operate during Brenda’s absence. Plans are in place to ensure continuity, and the Board expressed complete confidence in the team leading the day-to-day work.
An update was also shared by Ray Guy, Coordinator of GibSilver, which offers befriending and one-to-one support for those aged 55 and over. Ray highlighted the growth of the service and the importance of volunteer relationships in supporting those who may feel isolated or alone.
The Town Hall included time for open discussion, during which volunteers and supporters shared reflections, ideas, and questions. The session was a reminder of the strength of community and collaboration at the heart of GibSams.
