DESCRIPTION:Half-Day Suicide Prevention Training\nAt GibSams\, we believe suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Our 2026 Suicide First Aid Lite (SFA Lite) Community Training Programme equips individuals across Gibraltar with the knowledge\, skills\, and confidence to support someone who may be experiencing thoughts of suicide.\nThis practical\, evidence-informed half-day course provides participants with the tools to recognise warning signs\, engage in safe and supportive conversations\, and connect individuals to appropriate professional help.\nBy attending this training\, you become part of a growing network of suicide-aware individuals helping to strengthen Gibraltar’s collective response to suicide risk.\n  \n\nWho Should Attend?\nThis course is suitable for: \n\nCommunity members\nVolunteers\nManagers and team leaders\nHR professionals\nTeachers and youth workers\nFrontline staff\nAnyone who wants to feel more confident supporting someone in crisis\n\nNo previous experience or qualifications are required. \n\nWhat You Will Learn\nParticipants will: \n\nUnderstand the scale and impact of suicide\nRecognise potential warning signs\nLearn how to approach and begin a conversation about suicide\nDevelop skills to listen safely and respond appropriately\nUnderstand how to signpost and connect someone to professional help\nGain confidence in supporting someone while maintaining appropriate boundaries\n\nThe training combines facilitated discussion\, practical exercises\, and real-world scenarios in a respectful and supportive environment. \n\nYour Trainer\nSean Keating – Certified Suicide First Aid (SFA) Instructor \nSean Keating is a certified Suicide First Aid (SFA) Instructor dedicated to equipping inpiduals and organisations with the skills and confidence to support someone experiencing thoughts of suicide . \nThrough the SFA Lite programme\, Sean delivers practical\, evidence-informed training that empowers participants to recognise warning signs\, engage in safe and supportive conversations\, and connect inpiduals to appropriate professional help . \nAs an experienced mental health and wellbeing trainer\, Sean creates a safe\, respectful learning environment where sensitive topics can be explored with clarity and compassion\, helping to reduce stigma and build confidence in responding to crisis situations . \nSean also facilitates and leads the Walking Together support group for those bereaved by suicide\, providing a compassionate space for inpiduals and families to connect and support one another through grief . \nSean is fully qualified as a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Instructor (Adult and Youth)\, delivers SFA Full Day and Children & Young People courses\, and is trauma and grief/loss trained . \n\nWhy This Training Matters in Gibraltar\nGibraltar is a close-knit community. A heartfelt community event to support mental well-being and solidarity across Gibraltar. \nWhat to Expect \n\nCommunity Gathering at Dawn: We’ll gather in Casemates Square\, have a gentle warm up\, collect a painted stone and depart on the walk of choice. This gentle start allows time to centre ourselves\, embrace hope\, and stand with those living with mental health challenges.\nLight Refreshments & Connection: After our sunrise walk\, join us for breakfast. It’s a chance to connect with friends\, share experiences\, and foster the community bonds that underpin emotional resilience.\n\nWhy It Matters \nStarting the day together signals more than a beautiful view—it’s a shared commitment to hope\, recovery\, and community care. Mental well-being often begins in those early moments when we choose compassion over isolation\, connection over withdrawal. \nSunrise of Hope aims to cultivate a sense of belonging and remind us all of the power we hold in supporting one another. Whether you’ve attended the walk in previous years or are joining us for the first time\, this dawn gathering offers an unhurried space to just be—with others\, with hope. \n\nStart: Casemates at 5:30 am \nRoutes: There are two routes. The challenge route will summit the nature reserve and Mediterranean steps.
